I recently taught my 18 year old daughter how to bake banana bread.  I taught her an easy recipe, called Gorilla Banana Bread that my grandmother taught me, but it is not one she came up with.  She got it from a newspaper article.  I found it online, on several other websites.  It is easy, and tastes good, and has some redeeming healthy qualities.  She is going off to college this fall, and I wanted her to be able to make a few simple recipes.  It made me think of the fact that the first thing my mother taught me to make was scrambled eggs.

A couple of years ago, I taught myself to bake biscotti, an easy recipe that I have now taught to my daughter as well.  It is a great recipe for a gift during the holidays, and is good to take for a housewarming or other gift when you don’t know what to give.  What was the first recipe that you learned to cook, or taught someone else?

It was Boulettes porc-épic (porcupine meatballs). Don’t worry, no porcupines have been hurt!

It is an easy recipe really good too: it’s ground pork mixed with rice and various herbs and spices, cooked in a homemade thick tomato sauce.
You can also do it with ground beef, or a mix of both meat.

I did this recipe the first time I must have been 8 years old, and it was in a recipe book I received for my birthday.
